Dear Listener,

When you pray, what do your prayers sound like? Is it a conversation? Is it formal like a letter? Is it like you’re confiding in your closest friend? Whatever it may sound like, there is no wrong way to call on the Father. But what happens when you feel like God is speaking to everyone but you?

Are you there, God? It’s me, Isa.

I don't mean for this to come off in a selfish or ungrateful way! I’m sure you’ve heard the saying, “A teacher doesn’t give answers during the test.” Which I so get; that makes a lot of sense.. But what about during the mundane seasons where you feel like you’re just going in circles, not making any progress, no change? Just day after day, same rotten feeling in your heart, and everyone around you seems to be constantly seeing miracle after miracle. Where is God? Why can’t I hear him? I’m doing everything right! I’m reading my Bible every day, I’m praying without ceasing, I go to church every Sunday! Where are you, God?

Am I Mary or Martha?

Luke 10:38-42

Martha is busy making sure everything is perfect for Jesus; serving, preparing, checking every box… while Mary simply sits at His feet, listening to every word He says. When Martha becomes overwhelmed and asks Jesus to tell Mary to help, His response is both gentle and convicting: Mary has chosen "what is better." It’s a beautiful reminder that Jesus has always desired our presence before our performance. Before He asks us to do anything for Him, He simply invites us to be with Him.

This world is so fast-paced. We have a goal, and we want it to happen next week, tomorrow, tonight! But what this story is speaking to me is to slow down. Look around and give praise. Though what you may be going through is tough or seems like it’s never-ending, reflect on what He has brought you from! He wants you to sit at his feet and just listen.

Be still & Know.

Prayer doesn’t always have to be extravagant; worship doesn’t have to be on stage in front of everyone; your trials don't have to be televised. In these times where you might feel like you can’t hear God, allow yourself to be still rather than race to do something. Be still and just listen. Close your eyes, allow yourself to be open to the Spirit, and be still. Put on some soft worship music, create a secret place, remove distractions, and be still.

Psalm 46:10

“He says, “Be still, and know that I am God;

I will be exalted among the nations,

I will be exalted in the earth.””

It won't be easy friend, but my greatest encouragement to you is to sit still and know that God is working on it. The fruit that comes from times like these is always the sweetest.
